With the freezing weather coming to our area, we want to share a few quick tips to keep your school devices safe and working properly.
Protect it from extreme cold
Do not — I repeat DO NOT — leave your device:
in a car
on an uninsulated porch
in a garage or storage building
anywhere it could be exposed to freezing temperatures
Cold weather can damage device batteries and may cause the device to stop working correctly.
If it gets cold, warm it up FIRST
If your device has been exposed to the cold, bring it inside and let it warm up to room temperature for 30–60 minutes before turning it on or charging it.
Turning it on too quickly can cause moisture/condensation inside the device.
If you have power
If you have electricity, leave it plugged in and charging.
A full battery charge can also be helpful as a backup power source (especially if you need to charge a phone during an outage).
If you don’t have power
If you have to use it on battery:
turn on Battery Saver / Low Power Mode
lower screen brightness
close extra tabs/apps
Also, during an outage you’ll want to avoid using it for:
games
videos
social media
These drain battery fast.
Bonus tip
If you think you might lose internet, open your assignments ahead of time and make sure you know what you need to work on. Some work can be done offline and will sync later.
Stay safe and stay warm!
