Love My Tribe

The theme for the 2017-2018 school year is Love My Tribe. The reason we chose this theme is partly based on our rich heritage and the history of the Catawba Nation. Of the 566 federally funded American Indian Tribes, the Catawba Nation is the only tribe in the state of South Carolina. The tribal reservation is located in Rock Hill, SC, with over 2,800 enrolled members. Our football stadium, The Reservation, was named to honor the deep history of Indian Land.

At Indian Land Middle School we also consider our tribe to be our students, our families, our community, and our faculty and staff. The way we treat each other determines our success. It is our mission to work hard for one another, support one another, and care for one another.  Love My Tribe.

A common goal at Indian Land Middle School is 100% success, and we work toward our goal by…

Offering students a rigorous curriculum balanced with project-based learning, cross-curricular projects, and free tutoring for every student. Various assessment tools, such as USA Test Prep, help us monitor student progress and expose areas that require additional instruction. Middle level learners often struggle with organization skills; therefore, we have collaborated with a group of retired teachers to implement S.O.S. (Study, Organize, Succeed). This tool provides guidelines to improve note-taking, organize materials, and improve study skills. We accelerate learning for students by providing one-to-one technology resources and collaborative lesson planning across the grade levels.

Indian Land Middle School is proud to be recognized as a National School to Watch and a State School of Character. Both designations provide a framework for our success in creating equity, academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, organizational structures, and character development. Being recognized as a high-performing middle school helps us to build momentum on our trajectory of continued success in and out of the classroom. We continue to offer club time during the school day as well as extracurricular activities including: athletic programs, robotics team, and competitive music groups. At ILMS, we strive to offer something for everyone!

Our students and staff are generously supported by stakeholders who share our vision and genuinely seek to offer family assistance, sponsorships, volunteer hours, mentors, tutors, and so much more. The Indian Land community is always responsive to our needs and our wishes. Simply stated, help is always just a phone call away. We appreciate our dedicated PTO, School Improvement Council, and community partnerships.
